DIFFERENCES BETWEEN POPE AND EMPEROR

• The pope spoke Latin and Emperor spoke Greek
• The pope did not allow priests to marry while emperor allowed priests to marry

RULING THE EMPIRE

• Charlesmagne ruled in the west
• Empress Irene ruled the Byzantine Empire

ICONS

• The west were iconophiles
• The west used icons to spread religion to people wo cannot read
• The east were iconoclasts and they thought the icons were wrongly worshipped
• They liked the icons then in 730-843 they disliked it and finally they liked it again
• When they finally liked them again the icons could only be 2D

LANGUAGE

• In the west they spoke Latin in church
• In the east they spoke Greek or their local language

MARRAIGE

• Priests in the west could not marry
• Priests in the east were allowed to marry
