REVOLT

  • Beginning in 1763 after the French and Indian war, problems grew between Britain and the colonies.
  • Britain removed all taxes except tea. Tax for tea was a hated symbol of Britian's power.
  • The colonists have been leaving the motherland for freedom,economic gain,religious freedom.

BOSTON TEA PARTY

  • Sam Adams and The Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians and dumped tea.
  • The tea was worth $2,000,000 of tea in today's money.

WHAT HAPPENED?

  • At night the Britsih soldiers went out of Britain.
  • British arrived the next day in Boston.
  • The war began after a gun was shot.
  • Revere was a hero for "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere."
  • But he never actually finished his ride. He was captured.

A SOLDIER'S LIFE

  • Continental Soldiers had to provide their own clothes.
  • When shoes are worn out, they used old rags to protect their feet.
  • British Soldiers were well dressed and were called redcoats because of the color of the jacket.
  • King George III of Britain hired soldiers from small German principalities.
  • Because he found it hard to train troops to fight across the Atlantic.

HOMEFRONT

  • Colonial women did household duties like cleaning and leaving business to men.
  • Women were responsible for many things while the husbands went to fight.
  • The war brought many problems to women who's husband was off at war.
  • That's why women had to take care of business while the husband was at war.

CELEBRATE!

  • George Washington hears about the Declaration of Independence.
  • New Yorkers tear down the statue of King George III.
  • They melted it into bullets for war to show their freedom.
  • The head was set up on a spike.

PORTRAITS FROM THE REVOLUTION

  • Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.
  • He met in Philidelphia with the delegates of the colonies.
  • Thomas Jefferson wrote the first draft.
  • In the end, they all signed the Declaration of Independence.

  • King George III nearly stepped down as king.
  • It was clear that his opposition in parlement had many votes to end war.
  • But his advisor told him to stay king.
