HEARTH AND THE SALAMANDER
A is for Absurd.
Montag is a firefighter and their job is to burn books and houses with books. Books are bad because they create thought which isn't allowed. This is absurd cause it is meaningless, maybe not to their society, but to ours.
B is for Blah
Montag finally realizes that he isn't having a very fun life. His wife tries to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills, so she isn't happy either. They world they live in is "blah" or boring. Clarisse is the only one that realizes how boring life really is there.
C is for Curious
Montag is continuously wondering what is in books. Montag wonders why they are so bad and why some people are willing to die for them. Later, Montag finds out that books made people unhappy. He starts to read the books he has at home to figure out their meanings.
D is for Death
The neighbor girl Clarisse dies from getting hit by a car. Clarisse was a very important character because she caused Montag to realize he wasn't having a happy life and causes him to wonder about books.
E is for Educated.
Educated is exactly the opposite of what they are. They have no prior knowledge from anything. At school kids can't ask questions. All they do is listen to a recorded teach tell you things. Children also had to start going to school basically right when they were born.
F is for Fire
When a house contains a book, the firemen are called to burn the books. Books create thought in this thoughtless society which is illegal. Different kids of books create people to become unhappy so the people decided to ban all books.
G is for Guilty
Montag has a guilty conscience. He has books hiding in the vent in his ceiling that only he knows about. He doesn't tell anyone about them until after Beaty comes to talk to him about the history if books. Once Montag decides to talk about them, he tells Mildred.
H is for Hesitant
Montag has a feeling that someone programmed his DNA into the mechanical hound. Since Montag has the books hidden in his house, he has a feeling someone else knows about them. He often hears the hound outside his house at night.
