  • Romulus founded Rome
  • Romulus becomes the first king of the city of Rome.
  • War with the Sabines occoured
  • Romans kidnapped the women from the Sabines
  • Eventually the two tribes were united

715 BC

  • Romulus dies and Rome is ruled by the Julius Proculus for a period of one year
  • Numa Pompilius came to power after the senate
  • Numa was not a warrior but a religious figure
  • Numa is known as the man who moved the order of the Vestal Virgins from Alba Longa to Rome
  • founded the temple of Janus, established the various priestly colleges, including the order of the fetiales who held the power to declare war and make peace.

673BC

  • Numa dies and Tullius Hostilius becomes the third king of Rome.
  • Tullus Hostilius declared war against alba longa
  • The Roman victory meant that Alba Longa conceded defeat and swore allegiance to Rome.
  • The romans were going to go to war with another neighbor the Fidenates and their allies abandoned them but they still won
  • The city of Alba Longa was destroyed

642 BC

  • Tullius Hostilius dies and Ancus Martius becomes the 4th king of Rome.
  • Ancus Marcius was chosen as a ruler to restore the peace
  • During his reign religion was emphasized over warfare.
  • The people thought he was a pushover
  • When the old latin tribe started war with them They were defeated, and their city was destroyed and their people were sent into Rome.

  • The scorned sons of King Ancus sought revenge and hired two assassins to kill him
  • Tarquins was exiled from Rome,which ended the Monarchy and began the roman republic
  • The senate handed power to two consuls and they ruled like joint kings
  • The Roman Republic government had three elements: a system of magistrates, a Senate, and a number of popular assemblies.
