  • Member of Democratic Party
  • In 63 B.C.: elected high priest allegedly by bribes.
  • On Sulla's death he returned to Rome and gained popularity in his party

REFORMS

  • Cut back on grain doles ( welfare rolls)
  • Freed 1/3 of slaves
  • Lowered interests rates
  • Enormous public works
  • Term limit on governors

ASSASINATION

  • Senators weren't happy with caesar's gain in power
  • Caesar named himself dictator for life
  • Because of Caesar's gain in power the senates decided to kill him
  • The senators also wanted to restore the republican liberates in Rome
