ROSS ICE SHELF OF ANTARCTICA

  • The Ross ice shelf is the largest ice shelf in Antarctica
  • It is about the size of France.
  • The ice shelf is several hundred meters thick
  • 90% of the shelf is under water.

ULURU / AYERS ROCK

  • Uluru is a large sandstone rock formation in central Australia.
  • Uluru is a site where many ancient paintings can be found.
  • Uluru is 1,142 feet tall
  • At dusk, Uluru has a distinctive red colouring.

MEKONG RIVER

  • The worlds 12th longest river
  • One of the richest places in the world for biodiversity.
  • Important conduit for thousands of years.
  • The headwaters of the Mekong are a protected area.

WAILUKU RIVER

  • 28 mi long river in Hawaii
  • Carries 10 tons of suspended sediment into Hilo bay each day.
  • Accounts for 25% of fiver drowning deaths in the state.
  • Can flood and then recede very fast.

MOUNT SEMERU

  • Mount semeru is an active volcano on the island of Java.
  • It is the highest mountain in Java.
  • It has erupted at least 55 times since 1818
  • Name means the "great mountain"

PERAK RIVER

  • Second longest river in the Malay peninsula
  • 400 km long
  • Starts in Thailand
  • The royal town Kuala Kangsar is on the river.
