  • Took place on 9/17/1862
  • Was the bloodiest of the civil war and of the U.S history

  • Union troops gained greater control of the Mississippi River valley
  • Both sides gained and lost ground

SEIGE OF VICKSBURG

  • Starved the city into surrender
  • Lasted six weeks
  • Mississippi was under union control
