What is a Wheel and Axle?

PURPOSE

• Continuously applies a force to a load.
• Used to turn objects or move them higher.
• Makes movement easier.

Parts

• Usually a disk that rotates around an axis.
• Or any rotating object on which a force is applied.
• The axis is a smaller disk, cylinder, or shaft that attaches to the wheel.

Examples

• Wheels
• Bicycle sprockets
• Door knobs
• Mounted tires

• 2nd force side load side
• 3d load side fulcrum

Wheel axle

• A simple machine
• Further away from axle the easier
• Easier to turn the wheel that way
