WHAT IS A RHINO?

  • A rhino is a large armored mammal native to Asia and Africa and they have horns on there noses
  • Rhinos are the 2nd largest land animal.
  • There are over 50 species but most of them are extinct. There are 5 species still alive today.
  • We will learn about those 5 and three extinct speices.

WOOLY RHINO

  • This furry beast once lived in Canada the US and Russia.
  • It weighed over 4 tons and it's over 6 feet tall!
  • It lived in grasslands and it ate leaves and grass.
  • It like the wooly mammoth went extinct because of climate change and over hunting!
  • It was the only rhino too live in north america.

INDRICOTHERIUM.

  • The indricotherium was largest land mammal ever.
  • It weighed 10 tons had no horns tall legs and had a long neck.
  • It was like the giraffe of its time. It used its long neck to reach tree tops.
  • Gorge Lucius based the at-at from star wars empire strikes back off of the indricotherium.
  • It lived in Asia, africa and Europe. It was also larger than T-rex.

BRONTOTHERIUM.

  • This was the first species of rhino and large mammal.
  • Its not just related to rhinos but also to horses.
  • Besides being so large it was also very dumb.
  • It weighed 5 tons. And lived in Europe and Asia.
  • It went extinct do to evolution.

BLACK RHINO

  • The black rhino is native to the grass lands of Africa.
  • It is over 5 feet tall and weighs 2 tons.
  • It is called the black rhino because of its dark skin.
  • It is endangered because over hunting and habitat lose.

JAVAN RHINO

  • The Javan rhino is native to the rain Forrest India and China.
  • It is 4 feet tall and weighs 1 ton.
  • It is the smallest species of rhinos still alive.
  • It is endangered because of over hunting and habitat lose!

INDIAN RHINO

  • This armored creature is native to the grassland of India.
  • It is 6 feet tall and weighs 4500 tons.
  • It's only natural predator is the tiger.
  • It is endangered because of over hunting.

SUMATRAN RHINO

  • This furry rhino lives in the rain Forrest of Borneo island.
  • They are 5 feet tall and weigh 2 tons.
  • They are the only rhino left with fur they shed in the summer.
  • They are endangered because of over hunting and habitat lose.

WHITE RHINO

  • This animal is native to the savannah of Africa.
  • They are 6 feet tall and weigh 3 ton they are the largest rhino still alive.
  • They are called white because white means wide in African.
  • They are endangered because of over hunting.

CONSERVATION

  • All five rhinos are endangered.
  • Some of these creatures are endangered because of habitat lose.
  • Others are hunted for there horns wich are used as medicine.
  • We must protect these wonderful creatures.
