• In around 1400, people started to study the anatomy of a human to see what was inside and how illnesses worked.

• Penicillin is used around the world to treat bacterial infections

• Jonas Salk makes a vaccine for polio
• Polio is eliminated from the U.S. in 1994

NEW DISEASES

• The disease SARS is discovered in China
• SARS affects the respiratory system

POLIO EMERGES

• Some people do not get vaccines, and they get polio.
• The world goes crazy to stop it and polio slowly dies down again
