THE FARM

PIGS

Uses: meat or pets
Pigs can be used for meats. Some examples of the meats you get from pigs are whole hams, pork chops, and bacon.

Pigs eat many different things: corn, greens, and human food. To everyone's surprise, pigs eat almost anything including human remains.

COWS

Uses: meat, milk or just pets
Cows give us meat and milk. Some types of meats are: steak, ribs, and other parts of the cow are used for dog treats.
The milk is used everyday and needs to be pasteurized. But, you can drink raw cow milk.

HORSES

Uses : racing, hunter/jumper, western riding, ranch workers, pets
Horses are used to work farms and fields, pleasure riding, and showing. Some horses roam wild and are used for grazing purposes.

CHICKENS

Uses: meat and eggs
Chickens give us eggs, meat, and farm pets.
Did you know....There are more chickens used for meat than any other land animal.

GOATS

Uses: milk, meat, and wool
Goats have many uses, from meat and milk to helping farmers clear fields and pastures from brush. From goats milk we can make soaps and drinking milk.
Farmers also use goats for their fiber or wool. Goats are a great help to farmers for clearing out thick brush as they eat and can utilize many types of weeds and plants unlike other grazing animals.

SHEEP

Uses: wool and meat
Sheep are used mostly for meat and their fiber. Many farmers will use the fiber from the sheep and sell it for a profit. A person can make any type of clothing from sheep fiber.

DOGS

Uses: work animal and mans best friend
Dogs are great farm workers. On a farm they are used for herding farm animals around the land. The dog is an asset to the farmer for protection of the animals. Dogs on a farm are not only works but are great companions for the farmer and their family.

ALPACA

Uses: wool and pets
Alpacas are used primarily for their fiber. They are clipped and the fiber is cleaned and woven together to make sweaters, blankets, socks, hats, gloves and much more. Alpacas also make great watch animals as they are very alert animals and will recognize small changes.

DUCKS AND GEESE

Uses: feathers and eggs
Ducks and geese are very similar in some aspects. Ducks and geese both are used for their feathers and meats. Our down blankets and pillows are made from duck and goose feathers. Many people will eat goose around the holidays for a special meal.
Did you know.... Duck eggs are healthier for you than a chicken egg.

CATS

Uses: mouser and pets
Cats are used around the farm to help keep mice, rats, and rodents out of barns and houses.
