Impact of PD Technology Innovation Implementation by African Teachers;
A Mixed Methods Study

Alesha Baker

Purpose Statement:

This study will address the impact PD has on technology innovation implementation on teachers in an African village. An embedded mm design will be used in which interviews are embedded within a QUAN design. The QUAN data will be used to test the theory that predicts that training will have a positive influence on the perceptions and attitudes of teachers about the innovation. The qual data will explore the impact the PD has on teacher concerns about new programs and practices.

Research Questions

1. Is there a difference in teachers' attitudes towards innovation implementation before and after PD is provided?

2. Which delivery methods for PD has the greatest impact the teachers' perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs about implementing a new innovation?

3. How does the interview data help design adult learning and explain the results of the PD aimed at testing its impact on tech innovation implementation?

Rationale
MM design will be used to integrate the results & draw upon the strengths of each method. The design was selected to include data to answer the secondary research question within this predominantly QUAN study. The qual strand will be used to describe or explain the results of the quan strand. The qual data collection will occur during & after the experimental intervention.

Mixed Methods Design

  • Embedded Design
  • one data set supports the other
  • examine the process of the intervention
  • experimental

Data Collection

  • QUAN-Pre-SoC (raw scores)
  • qual- Daily Questions
  • Intervention - PD
  • QUAN - Post- SoC (Wilcoxon)
  • qual - Interviews (content analysis)
