Ponds/Lakes
Sun fish feed on algae on the surface of ponds and lakes. Plants grow from the bottom because sunlight makes its way to the bottom.

Marine Ecosystems

Estuary, intertidal zone, neritic zone, surface zone, and deep zone

Estuary
Algae and plants provide food and shelter. Animals use estuary for breeding grounds.

Intertidal Zone
Barnacles and sea stars attach to rocks and crabs burrow in the sand. Plants adapt to survive pounding waves and changes in water levels.

Neritic Zone
Sunlight passes through water so plants can have photosynthesis. Schools of fish feed on algae.

Surface Zone
Algae carry out photosynthesis. Animals depend on algae for food.

Deep Zone
There are no plants in this zone. Animals feed on the remain of dead organisms.
