The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo gave the United States the Rio Grande boundary for Texas, and gave the U.S. ownership of California, and a large area comprising New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming and Colorado. Mexicans in those annexed areas had the choice of relocating to Mexico or receiving American citizenship

Economic opportunities included becoming a factory worker, owning a plantation, and even owning slaves.

Native Peoples

The U.S. Army removed the natives from their land. They forced them to cede and often massacred and abused their people. The Indians were put on reservations because of Andrew Jackson and the “Indian Removal Act".
