  • The Jesuits were founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola
  • The jesuits were founded on August 15th, 1534 at the University of Paris
  • The Jesuits are known for their educational, missionary, and charitable works.

JOHN CARROLL

  • John Carroll was the first American born bishop.
  • He wanted education to be the main focus of society.
  • John Carroll was America's connection to England.

WHY WAS THIS ORDER FOUNDED?

  • It was founded to spread knowledge of Christianity.
  • The Jesuits wanted to help others follow the teachings of Jesus.
  • They wanted all kids to get a good education.
  • They wanted education not only in their beliefs but in Math and English.

THE JESUITS STILL EXIST TODAY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGETOWN

IT WAS THE FIRST JESUIT COLLEGE IN AMERICA

WHAT DID I FIND MOST INTERESTING ABOUT THE JESUITS

  • I Thought it was very interesting how much their belief is based on education
  • They are committed to education, and there are many colleges founded because of Jesuits
  • They have a strong focus on the teachings of Jesus.
  • The Jesuits also saw the importance of learning Math and English.
