It had many roads and it spread classic ideas of both Christianity and the Latin language

It's size impacted the modern world enormously

This region is a frontier
A frontier is a sparsely populated undeveloped area on the outskirts of a civilization
The region had rich soil which better suited for raising and growing crops
The seas provided a way of transportation routes and provided fish for food
Large rivers were ideal for trade and mountain streams pushed water wheels

THE GERMATIC KINGDOMS
Germanic tribes migrated across Europe
They were farmers and herders
They had no cities or written laws. Lived in small communities governed by unwritten customs
Elected kings that led them to war
Warrior nobles swore loyalty for exchange of weapons and loot

Germanic kingdoms transformed Western Europe into small kingdoms
The strongest was the Kingdom of the Franks
Clovis who was the king of the franks conquered roman province in Gaul
Clovis took an important step when he transfered over to Christianity
Clovis gained the peoples support and gained powerful allies in the Christian church in Rome

EUROPE AND THE MUSLIM WORLD
New powers emerged in the medditerranean
Islam rose in 622 in Arabia
Muslim armies crossed to France and Charles Martel gathered Frankish warriors
The battle of jours in 732, Christian warriors triumphed. They thought it was a sign of god on their side
Christians viewed the Muslim world as hostility when Islams weren't a threat

Charlemagne towered over people in his time.
He loved to battle.
He spent much oh his 46 year reign fighting Muslims in Spain
