OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER- IS AN ANXIETY DISORDER, THESES PEOPLE HAVE UNWANTED THOUGHTS, IDEAS, OBSESSIONS, OR BEHAVIORS THAT MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE
TO DO SOMETHING

OCD RISK FACTORS

  • Family History- if anyone in your family has had OCD you are at risk
  • Stressful Situations- such as tramatic events
  • Creating a habit of perfecting certain things,

OCD SIGNS

  • Obsession of unwanted things, repeating ideas of impluses that can
  • be scary or disgusting, feeling you have to be perfect.
  • implusive- having rituals that you perform when you want the
  • obsessions to go away.
  • haveing fears such as germs or having paranoia of certain doubts

SYMPTOMS

  • They do not get lasting relief from their anxiety
  • but they get temporary relief
  • other anxiety disorders can be evident such as depression.
  • The thought they might make sense.
  • Thinking you might harm others or losing control of yourself

DIAGNOSIS

  • a psychiatric assesment
  • Lab Work
  • Physical exam
  • CAN EFFECT EVERYDAY LIFE

TREATMENT

  • Treatment will reduce the complusions and the obsessions but never will
  • never go away.
  • Medications such as Serotonin
  • behavioral therapy
  • Exposure and Response Prevention
