ERNEST EVERETT JUST
- Born in the United States, but worked in Italy, Germany, and France.
- Born 14th August 1883, died 14th October 1941.
His accomplishments include: further elucidated the slow block, showed that the adhesive properties of the early embryo are surface phenomena dependant on developmental stage, and discovering the fast block for polyspermy.
Fol's experiment which he discovered the slow block led up to his discovery.
His work influenced Johannes Holtfreter's concept of "autoinduction" and broadly influenced modern evolutionary and development biology.
The political climate of the time in the United States was leaning towards isolationism, while Germany was wanting to expand.
