PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The hippies were a subculture that arose in the United States in the 1960's. Music was a very important aspect of the hippie lifestyle. The Woostock Music Festival ,in 1969, was widely considered to be the definitive moment for the larger counterculture generation. The hippies had their own unique style. They took their style influence from traditional and ethnic dress. Women wore loose dresses, patched denim and fringed outfits.
This style came to national prominence in 1967 during "The Summer of Love". Young designers of the 60's created
inexpensive clothing that the young people clamored to wear. In this design from Topshop Unique's 2011's collection you can see the psychedelic flowing hippie look that that became popular in the 1960's by designers like Betsy Johnson and Barbra Hulanicki.
This is another look from the same Topshop Unique collection that shows a hippie inspired look. A flowing flower print dress and fringed bag make this look reminiscent of the 1960's hippie look.
This crocheted and fringed look by Roberto Cavalli is inspired by 1960's hippie dress with a touch of rock'n roll. This look is from his SS 2011 collection and would fit perfectly at a summer music festival like Woodstock. This look like the other designer is the perfect example of subculture street style for fashion inspiration.
