WHAT IS A TOTEM POLE?

  • Most often carved from wood
  • They often told the story about an event
  • Some were family poles, representing a clan and their geneaology
  • Some commemorated a death
  • Eagles are a sign of peace, whales of strength

NATIVE AMERICANS AND SALMON

  • Northwest Indians eat salmon
  • When hunting, they would leave rock carvings
  • Such rock carvings are often found along migration routes
  • Art and life are closely connected in the Native American culture
  • The Chinook Salmon is named after the Chinook tribe of Washington

HOW TO ASSEMBLE

  • Your blanket will have 3 layers
  • The bottom layer will be 1 solid color
  • Layer 2 is your salmon
  • Your top layer will be water
  • Add paint, buttons, etc once all layers are glued
