  • Excellent scholar, went to Bonn University (philosophy)
  • Was an editor of a newspaper
  • Got in trouble because he denounced govt. decisions
  • They censored the paper first and eventually shut it down

as he got more outspoken/revolutionary

surplus value

the amount stolen from workers in the form of profit for capitalist

A vampire fang requires $5 of labour, $1 of material, and $1 of wear and tear on machinery (depreciation). Capitalists sell it for $20. Value of indirect labour is $2 (material/machine) , surplus value is $11 (how much exploitation is taking place).
