INTRODUCTION

  • The Southern Campaign was a series of war.
  • These wars were fought in the south.
  • These civil wars were fought between Patriots and the British.
  • Most of the wars were civil wars between Patriots and Loyalists.

CHARLESTON

  • Charleston was one of the Patriots worst defeats.
  • The British had cut off all suppliese the patriots had.
  • They then surrounded Charleston leaving no escape for the patriots.
  • Then they charged Charleston and eventually captured it.
  • This was a major loss for the patriots because Charleston was a major port city.

PARTISAN TROOPS

  • Partisan Troop or Militia were on the Patriots side.
  • The Partisan Troops were known for using Guerrilla Warfare.
  • The British were frustrated with the Partisan Troops because of this.
  • Partisan Troops were trained to fight but not actually part of the Army.

BATTLE OF GULIFORDS COURTHOUSE

  • In the afternoon of March 15, 1781.
  • American and British forces fought or clashed for several hours near Gulifords Courthouse.
  • The battle was the culmination of several months of hard campaigning of the armies.
  • The armies were Nathanael Greene's and Charles Cornwall.
