Line

  • a point moving in space
  • may be: 2D, 3D, implied, descriptive, or abstract
  • actual vs implied
  • geometric vs. organic
LINE EXERCISE: Find different types of line in your environment. Make quick sketches of the object (or view) and make a note of where you saw it.

Shape

  • is 2D, heighth and width only
  • may be organic or geometric
COMPOSITE SHAPE EXERCISE: Design an interesting composition based on the shadows created by backlighting different combinations of random items.
