SINO-SOVIET BORDER CONFLICT
The people who were involved in the Sino-Soviet Border Conflict were the communist countries of Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and People's Republic of China (PRC).
During the Sino-Soviet Split before the border conflict, USSR and China had different ideals on communism with capitalism. China didn't want anything to do with capitalism and USSR was leaning over towards capitalism. In 1968, the soviets amassed along the border of China. The soviets were sending nuclear threats to China which worried tons of Chinese people and troops. China's nuclear weaponry was at its beginning. Moscow replaced Washington DC as China's biggest threat.
The Sino-Soviet Border Conflict took place along the border of the USSR and China. A big place in this event was the Ussuri River; located on the upper eastern border of China. There was an island in this river called Zhenbao, this was the place where most of the soviets troops amassed. On March 2, 1969, China open fired on the soviet troops patrolling the island, causing a great conflict.
The Sino-Soviet Border Conflict happened in March of 1969. This undeclared war went through the spring and summer of that year. The undeclared war lasted for seven months. The soviets and china made a treaty called the Sino-Soviet Border Agreement. This agreement resolved a lot of border disputes and had some minor territory changes on the border.
This event was important for U.S. and Chinese relations. President Nixon saw an opportunity to improve US and Chinese relations at this time. Nixon met with a Chinese leader for the first time US did in many years. A fun fact is after this international meeting, the Chinese leader sent two pandas to the U.S. named Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing.
