Prison reform at a glance
In prisons in the early 1800s prisoners were chained in over crowded rooms with the sick. Felons and misdemeanors were imprisoned in the same rooms.

IMPORTANT EVENTS DURING THE PRISON REFORM

• Right after the war of 1812 juvinile delinquent centers were created.
• 1816, the Audburn system is devolped (public health and prison reform).
• 1821, Auburn system takes effect.
• 1825, Boston Prison Disciplinary society formed (timetoast.com).
