STRAY CATS
- Driving question: what can the US do?!!!
- Is it more humane to kill stray cats, or let them fend alone?
THE FACTS
- In 1990, the U.S. ranked first in the world in four-year degree attainment among 25-34 year olds
- Today the US ranks 12th
- the completion rate for low-income students is around 25 percent.
- high school graduates from the wealthiest families in our nation are almost certain to continue on to higher education
- while just over half of our high school graduates in the poorest quarter of families attend college
Student loans in the United States are a form of financial aid that must be repaid, in contrast to other forms of financial aid such as scholarships and grants. Student loans play a very large role in U.S. higher education.[1] Nearly 20 million Americans attend college each year. Of that 20 million, close to 12 million – or 60% - borrow annually to help cover costs.
In 2010, graduates who took out loans left college owing an average of more than $26,000. Student loan debt has now surpassed credit card debt for the first time ever.
The President has also set a new goal for the country: that by 2020, America would once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
Journal for 5 minutes on what you think would be some good ways to achieve the President's goal
Now research what the government is doing to attain this goal
