PRESENTATION OUTLINE
DOES LITERATURE INFLUENCE PEOPLES OPINIONS?
Soldiers from the USA were influenced by all sorts of things to join the army. Music was only introduced in the 1960's and by that time most songs were against the war. Many peoples opinions changed dramatically in the USA when the Vietnam war was televised. We found that most people against Vietnam war were usually from the younger generation.
WHEN DURING THE WAR WAS MUSIC USED TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE MOST
- During the 1960’s several influential artists began to appeal to the public by writing songs about the Vietnam war mostly against the war. For a kick start the highly influential musician, Bob Dylan recorded the song “The times they are a changin” written in 1963 just before the public began to disapprove of America’s involvement in Vietnam.
In 1964 Buffy Sainte Marie mentions in song The Universal Soldier " This is not the way we put an end to the war," this tells us that she thinks war isn't the only way to solve the problem between north and south Vietnam.
In 1965 Jan Berry released a song called The Universal Coward as a response to The Universal Soldier.
In the lyrics it says " And he's twisted into thinking
fighting is all wrong," instead he disagrees thinking the soldiers should be fighting.
CONCLUSION
Is literature used to influence people's opinion
With the information we have collected in this assignment we strongly agree that literature does influence peoples opinion especially through music because you can put feelings and emotions in to what your protesting about. We learnt a lot about music in general and how much of an influence in can make on people's emotions, unfortunately the horrors of war are still around us and propaganda is still used to this day. Our final evaluation is that literature IS used to influence people's opinion. We loved working together and it made doing this assignment extremely fun.
