PRESENTATION OUTLINE
RIDGE PUSH
new less dense crust forming at divergent plates pushes older crust away; older crust is pulled by gravity
RIFT VALLEY
- lowland that forms between mountain ranges
- land form that results from a divergent plate
CONVERGENT PLATE BOUNDARY
CONTINENTAL VS CONTINENTAL
WHAT'S A SUBDUCTION ZONE?
AN EXAMPLE OF A DEEP OCEAN TRENCH
RESULTING FROM A TRANSFORM BOUNDARY
AN EXAMPLE OF A TRANSFORM BOUNDARY
When heat of the overlaying rock melts, it floats to the surface and finds its way to the crust. It can then form an island volcano.
Hot spots support plate tectonics because when islands form, it does not move because its near the Pacific Plate, which does not move.
Ocean vents support plate tectonics because they form because of plate tectonic movement.
