Heritage

  • Panfilo de Narvaez was born in Valladoid, Castile in Spain 1478.
  • Because of growing up in Spain, he spoke Spanish.
  • One of the King's favorites.
  • One of his relatives was the governor of Cuba.

Expedition

  • The goal of the exhibition was to create Spanish colonies and to explore
  • the land from Mexico to Florida
  • The year of exhibition was 1528 in November

Accomplishments

  • He was granted to explore the land of Florida to Mexico
  • He was granted the land of Florida
  • He was a lieutenant governor of Cuba after he helped concur it in 1511
  • He owned plantations in Cuba

  • He outnumbered Cortes 3 to 1, but he still got beat
  • He got his eye stabbed out by Cortes
  • He embarked to Jamaica as a solider in 1510
  • Helped conquer Cuba in 1511

Contribution to Texas History

  • He scouted the land to set up Spanish Colonies
  • When the survivors of the hurricane showed up in Texas the Karankawas took 
  • them in and the Europeans spread smallpox and influenza killing off most
  • of the Karankanawas.

What If

  • If Narvaez did not become lieutenant governor of Cuba he wouldn't have been
  • set up for the exploration and wouldn't have been granted the land.
  • If Narvaez didn't decide to travel Florida by foot, he wouldn't have gotten
  • in the hurricane and the survivors wouldn't have spread the diseases to the
  • Karankawas that killed them off.
