  •  Erected in Saqqara necropolis, Egypt

  • Built in Giza Necropolis, or modern day El Giza, Egypt
  • May have built of the Fourth Dynasty Pharaoh Khufu.

  • Believed to represent the Pharaoh Khafra
  • The original name is not known for it is never stated in text
  • The purpose was never made known
  • It is not known how it was constructed

ROMAN EMPIRE

Monumental architecture are amazing structures that have various purposes and meanings. For example, in Rome the Hadrian's Library was used for educational purposes. Other structures such as the Arch of Septimius Severus, stands to commemorate the hard work and victories of emperor Septimius Severus. Some places were built for amusement, and even places for the god.

EGYPTIAN CIVILIZATION
The purpose of monumental architecture in ancient Egypt was predominantly for tombs.The wealthy had miniature pyramids built so they could be buried along with their wealth. The great pyramids were never used as tombs to our current knowledge. The purpose of the Sphinx remains a mystery to this day.
