"It was there that she passes her brightest moments looking after her onions" (Niane 105) -In the beginning of the story Sassouma Bérété is kicked out of the kingdom. She is forced to live in poverty, in this quote it explains how she lives her life growing and planting her crops.
"She had never imagined that hate could be so strong in a human being" (Niane 106). Sassouma Bérété had an incredible hate towards Sundiata and his mother, she went out of her way to make them feel inferior to her and her son.
"With all his might the son of Sogolon tore up the tree and put it on his shoulders and went back to his mother" (Niane 108). After seeing his mother crying because of how embarrassed she is of him not being able to walk Sogolon djata decides that it's time he walks and he does and brings his mother a baobab tree.
"From that day forward the queen mother had no more peace of mind" (Niane 109). Sassouma Bérété saw Sundiata as he walked the tree to his mother and she knew that Sundiata's destiny was way greater than she thought.
"the more a wife loves and respects her husband and the more she suffers for her child, the more valorous will the child be one day" (Niane 109). Sogolon Kedjou was a great wife and mother and she was finally feeling like her family understood their greatness.
Sundiata was an epic hero in many different ways. He over came a huge obstacle at a young age. He fought in the war after being sent to exile. Sundiata was also a great leader, who was loved by his people.
