BAY BRIDGE

• Built in 1933
• Opened in 1936
• Located in San Francisco/ Oakland, California, United States.
• Spans over the San Francisco Bay
• 23,556 inches it spans
• Cost 36 million dollars to build.

FAILURE

• In 1989, the Loma Prieta earthquake hit San Francisco.
• The earthquake caused a total of a 7.1 magnitude .
• Caused considerable damage to the Sunset District.
• The earthquake caused the most damage in the Mariana and Mission Districts.

RECONSTRUCTION

• About 25 years after the earthquake, substantial reconstruction was made
• Around lat year, the eastern span was just finished.
• The City of San Francisco is starting to improve the western span of the bridge.
• Eastern span was so damaged, now the bridge goes through Yerba Buena Island.
