In this story, I start off with baseball in my youth. Years after I start, I make a decision that would change my entire life. In the end, I find the sport that I truly enjoy.

Baseball in My Youth

Daniel Wang

It all started when I started playing baseball with Parkwood.

At Parkwood, my team won a championship or two.

After a few years, Parkwood started doing tryouts, and I went to Liberty Bell, knowing I wasn't going to make the team.

This move seemed smart at the moment, but over time, it had its pros and cons.

Pros: There were no tryouts, and the team had talent.

Cons: Coaching wasn't great, and I developed a fear in the batter's box.

In my last season, getting a hit was as rare as a movie in which the protagonists lose.

In my last season, my team had a nice playoff run, before Parkwood played like professionals against us.

However, what really set off the internal conflict was a bold move made by my coach in the offseason.

The coach decided to start using 90 foot bases.

We were using 75 foot bases at the time.

After this move, I knew I wasn’t going to stand a chance, and I realized in the middle of a practice that baseball wasn’t for me.

While baseball was slipping away from me over my last few seasons, another sport started to take its place.

That sport was bowling.

Over the years, I grew my talent in bowling, and I even practiced two-handed form (no, not the form you use as a toddler).

In my freshman year at Archbishop Ryan, I was a co-MVP in the PCL, tied with a senior from our rival school, Father Judge, with an average of 195.

This is my primary strike ball, the Paradox V,

which is one of the balls that will hook the most on the lane.

This is my spare ball, which is a plastic ball,

which barely hooks at all, which makes it great for hitting 10-pins.

This year, I hope to have another successful year as a Sophomore on the bowling team, and maybe get another MVP!
