• Went over the summer with Encounter The Gospel Life

WHAT IS ENCOUNTER?

• Week long service camp
• Stationed in UMD college park

WHAT HAPPENS AT ENCOUNTER?

• Get paired with a random group of teens
• Get assigned a place to do service for a week
• Bond with new people and have fun doing service with peers

WHAT I DID AT HILLHAVEN

• Organized movie shelves
• Made lunch
• Read to the elderly
• Played games
• Talked to them

EFFECT ON OTHERS

• Made them happy
• Was told many times that they do not get many visitors
• I could tell by the way they interacted with me that they loved just having someone new to talk to

FAVORITE PART

• Getting to meet all the new people
• Playing games with the elderly
• Seeing them smile when they could complete simple things

FAVORITE STORY

• Met a retired coach
• Coached for semi-pro basketball team
• Got so happy when he talked about going to the championship and how they were so close to going pro

WHAT I LEARNED

• Drains you
• Very hard to talk/ understand them (sometimes)
• Hard to hold conversations
