Biomes

What is a biome?

• A biome is a set of similar ecosystems.(has similar weather,rainfall,animals, and plants)
• Has two types: Aquatic and Land
• Let's go on to land biomes

Land Biomes

Deserts
A desert is defined by the lack of rain it has.It Has no soil,little or no surface water, and high evaporation.At night, deserts get cold.At day, they get over 100 degrees and at night they get below freezing temperatures.

Tundra
Life in the tundra is not easy.It is the coldest biome on earth.Only a select few of animals adapt to the harsh conditions of the tundra. Around 20% of the Earth's surface is covered with tundra.

Grasslands\
Grasslands are basically land filled with grass and wildflowers.They don't have enough water for trees, but have enough for grass which doesn't make it turn to a desert. Grasslands are usually located between a forest and desert.

Tropical Rain forest
They are warm and humid. There are loads of different creatures inhabiting the rain forest. Some trees in the rain forest are 50 feet high! Since there are a lot of trees, the rain forest has a lot of shade. Therefore, allowing many types of animals to inhabit it.

Savannah
This biome is a type of grasslands.It is sometimes called a tropical grassland. Behind the elephant is a savannah! Unlike a grassland, a savannah has scatttered trees and shrubs. Although it is a type of grassland, it is called a savannah because of its different characteristics.

Temperate Forest
This is a type of forest that is temperate in temperature.Temperate means not to extreme or in the middle.This biome has lots of rain and fertile soil.This biome is located around the world.It also has 4 seasons!(fall,winter,spring, and summer)

Taiga Forest
This is another forest biome with several characteristics that separate them from other forests.Well, it has the coldest weather.It also has leaves that do not fall off during the winter because of the trees soaking the sun's rays! This biome has a short growing season and has a thin layer of soil.It is also dry!

Aquatic Biomes

Marine Biome
This is the largest biome on Earth.It covers 70 percent of the Earth's surface!This biome is primarily made up of saltwater oceans.There are tons of underwater creatures that live in the marine biome!

freshwater Biomes
This biome is defined by low salt contents in the water.There are three types of freshwater biomes. They are ponds and lakes,streams and rivers, and wetlands! Ponds, lakes, and rivers(that are freshwater) are also called limnologists! (Cool Fact!)

Coral Reefs
A coral reef is a major marine biome. Around 25 percent of marine species live in coral reefs! That 25 percent are all sorts of creatures from the marine biomes! They are located near the equator,coastlines, and islands around the world!
