Breeding:Breeding begins in March or April, the start of Antarctic winter.A male gives an ecstatic display to find a female to mate with. After the penguins mate, the female lays one egg in May or June. After that, the female gives the egg to the male before leaving to eat.The male keeps the egg in its brood patch and huddles with other males during the winter. After the female comes back, the egg hatches and then the female feeds regurgitated food from her stomach. The male leaves to feed, and after that, the parents take turns taking care of the chick until November. Then,in December or January, they go to the ocean and feed there for the rest of the summer.
