DESIGN PROCESS (UNIT 3)

  • The challenge:
  • Identify an area of your community...
  • that would benefit from input by...
  • us as community artists creating a mural.
  • The area could be: within the school.

EDUCATIONAL QUOTES LIKE THESE...

  • Develop a passion for learning, if you do, you will never cease to grow".

WE CHOSE CcHS LIBRARY

  • The librarian saw our canteen mural...
  • and asked us to revamp the library artwork.
  • Area for the mural is 1m x 20 mtrs.
  • The mural should be bold, bright & eye catching.
  • We would like to use the theme of books and trees.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete research of ideas for the mural individually.
  • Present these ideas to the group.
  • Give feedback to others on their presentation.
  • Work as a groups to create the final design of the best work.
  • Agree specific tasks for everyone in the group.

CONSTRAINTS:

  • Presentation must be complete by November 2013.
  • Mural must be complete by February 2014.
  • CLIENT EXPECTATIONS:
  • These should be discussed in detail with the client,
  • and recorded by each individual.

INITIAL RESEARCH

  • Library mural, so we started with children's books.
  • Books made of paper from trees, so we considered a tree theme.
  • Theres so much kore technology in libraries today, we wanted to show that.
  • We liked The idea of famous educational quotes.
  • We research best loved children/teenagers books and films.

WE THOUGHT WE'D LOOK AT THE BOOK THE LORAX BECAUSE OF THE TREES

WE LIKE THE BRIGHT BOLD COLOURS AND SHAPES.

INITIAL SKETCHES EXPERIMENTING WITH LINE AND SHAPES

AT THIS STAGE, WORK WAS SMALL SCALE, AND WE JUST USED PENCILS

ALICE IN WONDERLAND TREES AND MUSHROOMS

WE INCREASED SCALE AND STARTED TO ADD COLOUR

EXOTIC PLANTS AND COLOURS WERE INVESTIGATED.
