  • Born on Feb. 12, 1809 in England
  • Was 2nd youngest out of 6 children
  • Studied in University of Edinburgh
  • Died on April 19, 1882

Darwin traveled all over the world on the HMS Beagle.

CHARLES LYELL WAS

  • A geologist
  • A believer in uniformitarianism

Both Darwin and Lyell shared a belief in uniformitarianism

Darwin knew that his book would provide a debate between science and religion. He also received a essay from Alfred Wallace, describing his own theory of natural selection.

Many religious people believed that God was the one that created mankind, and that humakind was created they way they are now.

Darwin's theory states that men evolved from apes. Darwin was against the idea that men were created in a human shape. This theory created controversy between religion and science.
