WHAT WAS THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE
The Louisiana purchase was when two country’s made a trade that would change one of them forever
The United States would be changed forever upon completing the Louisiana purchase. They gained approximate 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River.
At the time of the Louisiana purchase Thomas Jefferson was the president of the United States. He was a very busy man and didn’t have time to travel to make a purchase like the Louisiana purchase.
Yet, Jefferson did want to complete the deal. Jefferson sent James Monroe to France to complete the deal.
France’s great leaders were busy as well as Jefferson so France’s prime minister Francois Barbe-Marbois accepted the deal. France made a lot of money from selling the land involved in the Louisiana purchase
How much money did France make exactly?
France sold 13 states to the United States for $15 million. At Less then 3cents per acre
The United States gained 13 states from France during the Louisiana purchase. The 827,000 square miles gained from France would nearly double the United States.
That sums up what the Louisiana purchase was, the United States gaining 827,000 square miles, and France gaining $15 million
