Samuel Osborn Barber was born March 9, 1910, and died January 23, 1981 at the age of 70.

CHILDHOOD

  • His parents were Samuel Le Roy, (his father) and Marguerite McLeod(his mother). Plus he had a little sister named Sara.
  • His family also had quite a bit of wealth.
  • As a young child, he stayed at home with his family.

Adagio for Strings is probably one of the most well known and popular out of all of Samuel's compositions. Adagio was arranged for string orchestra and finished in 1936.

While Samuel loved all of his family, he admired his aunt Louis Louise Homer very much.

In 1947, Samuel's father and aunt Louis both got terribly ill and passed away.

In 1961, Samuel's beloved sister Sara got ill and passed away.

In the end, Samuel Osborn Barber died from lymphatic cancer in 1981.
