  • Greatest Union victory of the war
  • Considered to be the turning point of the war
  • General Lee had finally been beaten
  • The Battle had 51,000 casualties

Mary Virginia Wade
(Jennie Wade)
Mary Virginia Wade was the only direct civilian casualty in the battle of Gettysburg. She was killed while baking bread for hungry Union soldiers who begged her to make them food. While she was baking the bread she was hit by a stray bullet and killed. Other than Mary Wade no other civilians were killed.
