the beginning

  • The Cold War started after World War II
  • Because the U.S. and the Soviet Union became superpowers,
  • they were the two main competitors. 
  • Both countries wanted influence on the world.
  • It was called the cold war because there was no actual clash of arms.

Economic systems

  • The U.S had Capitalism while the Soviet Union had Communism.
  • Capitalism is making products for profit. Included a free market 
  • and private businesses. 
  • Communism did not include private businesses. Government was
  • in control of the economy. Production was for use in the society.

U.S. Foreign Policy

  • The Soviet Union responded with two counter strategies.
  • 1. They started supporting wars and fighting for liberation of 
  • colonies. This helped spread communism more. 
  • 2. The Soviet Union got attainment of military parity with the U.S.

Kitchen debate

  • The Kitchen Debate showed the growing split of the 
  • U.S. and the Soviet Union
  • Showed the conflicts of the two economic conflicts. 
  • It showed growing conflicts that occurred since the end of 
  • World War II.
