TRYING TO ESCAPE

• Communists taking over Laos
• Hmong helped the U.S. fight the Communists
• Hmong tried to live freely but got caught up in war

THE LONG SEARCH FOR FREEDOM

• The Hmong needed to move to look for good farming soil
• Hmong lived 5,000 years ago

FORCED TO MOVE

• The Hmong were forced to move even further south
• The Hmong were forced to work for the Chinese

YET ANOTHER MOVE

• The Hmong needed to move again and this time to Laos, Thailand and Vietnam

WAR IN VIETNAM

• France controlled Vietnam in 1945
• Communists wanted to take control of Vietnam so the French started fighting the Communists
• In the 1954 America sent troops to fight the Communists

THE WAR SPREADS

• The war spread to Laos in the early 1960's
• The CIA made a secret army in Laos to make the war stop spreading

A DIFFICULT CHOICE

• A lot of Hmong thought they needed to help the Americans
• Other Hmong thought they needed to help North Vietnam

HELPING U.S. TROOPS

• The Hmong helped U.S. planes that were crashed
• The Hmong also stole supplies that were sent from the Communists to Laos

LIVES CHANGED FOREVER

• The Vietnam War lasted from 1954 to 1975
