Rap?

  • Popular music genre
  • US Black origin
  • Rhythmic & Rapid
  • Prerecorded/produced instrumental
Rap is defined as a type of popular music of US black origin in which words are recited rapidly and rhythmically over a prerecorded, typically electronic instrumental backing

US Influence

Typically, people think of the US when they hear rap. The most popular rappers are from the US and most raps are in English. Because English is spoken pretty much everywhere in the world, American rap and hip-hop is also listened to everywhere.

REMIX: German Rap

In this presentation, I’ll be branching away from English rap and focusing on rap in Germany.

This may come to a surprise to many, but rap is very popular in Germany; it’s not all yodeling and oompa ommpa music!

After living in Germany for years and hanging out with German family and friends, I’ve become very familiar with German rap.

Topics

  • Partying
  • Women
  • Sex
  • Violence
  • ...Love ballads?

Example time!

Rappers in Germany are influenced by American rap because it’s so popular everywhere and it’s also the most successful form of rap: you never hear anyone in the US say “oh did you listen to the new Cro, Fler, or Bushido album”, but there are always people talking about the new Kanye or Drake songs. To actually give you all a visual and example of German rap I decided to play a music video!

Lyric Breakdown

So yea, you can hear and see the American influence. The style and fashion, the sample of Bobby Hebb’s "Sunny"..all American!
