To compare basic beliefs, they believe to follow a righteous path, that is shall lead to dharma. Karma is based on one's actions and the religions are similar as they believe in reincarnation.
To start off, the Buddhists holy book is called the Tripitaka based on the teachings of Buddha. Written in Pali similar to the language in which Buddha spoke. Quoted text from the book: "By oneself evil is done; by oneself one suffers; by oneself evil is left undone; by oneself one is purified. Purity and impurity belong to oneself; no one can purify another. You yourself must make an effort; the Buddhas are only preachers. The thoughtful who enter the way are free from the bondage of sin."
To describe in detail, the text of the buddhist is based of religious interpretations. The text is told from a Second person point of view in which you ask yourself how would you interprate their words. Overall I conclude that the text is to connect yourself with spiritual teaching and practices to form you mentally.
Hinduism is based on the sacred text of the Vedas. The vedas guide them through their daily life. A direct quote from the Vedas: "Life and Death, joy and sorrow, gain and loss; These dualities cannot be avoided. Learn to accept what you cannot change."- the Ramayana (book2)
To include, the Vedas uses lessons to improve the Hindus through its warnings and teachings. The book is written in the same point of view as the Tripitaka, thus giving off the same attentive feel. Overall the text is spiritual in the sense that is to help with the spirit of oneself to have a fulfilling future and life.
The Vedas on the other hand is more of a guideline told in what are the dos and and don't and how to perform as well as act, unlike the Tripitaka. The Tripitaka is interpretation meaning you yourself must take from the text what you fell it means. The texts are similar as they follow some of the same beliefs, such as karma, dharma, reincarnation, and afterlife. The text also has the same purpose to use to apply to their life.
