BASICS

  • Polio is a virus that invades the spinal cord and parts of the brain, and can render your limbs useless, and in some cases can paralyze a person in parts.

HOW IT CAN BE CONTRACTED

  • The poliovirus, which is a virus specific to humans, can be contracted by contaminated food or water.
  • The poliovirus is a very easy virus to contract, but only under poor hygiene.

FAMILY

  • The poliovirus is part of the poliomyelitis family.

CURE/TREATMENT

  • While there is currently no cure for the poliovirus, or any other virus, there are rehabilitation treatment for polio victims.

SYMPTOMS

  • When a person gets the poliovirus, there are no shown symptoms and it requires a medical diagnosis, but a person may experience paralysis that can be fatal.
