NEW YORK

  • It is the most popular city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the State of New York, the city is the center of New York metropolitan area, one of the most popular urban agglomerations in the world.

LANGUAGE

  • The New York area is home to a distinctive regional speech pattern called the New York dialect, alternatively known as Brooklynese or New Yorkese. It has (49.1%) of New Yorkers speak something other than English at home. Spanish and Chinese are off the charts as the next languages of choice.

TRANSPORTATION

  • The transportation system of New York City is a network of complex infrastructural systems. New York City, being the most popular city in the United States, has a transportation system which includes one of the largest subway systems in the world. New York City is home to the two busiest rail stations in the US, including Grand Central Terminal. There is also an extensive bus system in each of the five boroughs, and numerous taxis throughout the city.

WHAT TO SEE

  • Statue of liberty: It is a copper statue designed by a French sculptor. Built and dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The statue is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess, who bears a torch and a tablet upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.

WHAT TO SEE

  • Times square: It is a major commercial intersection and neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan. Brightly adorned with billboards and advertisements. One of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections, it is also the hub of the Broadway Theater District and a major center of the world's entertainment industry. Times Square is one of the world's most visited tourist attractions,

drawing an estimated 50 million visitors annually. Approximately 330,000 people pass through Times Square daily, many of the tourists, while over 460,000 pedestrians walk through Times Square on its busiest days.

  • Madison Square Garden: It is a multi-purpose indoor arena. The Garden is used for professional basketball and ice hockey, as well as boxing, concerts, ice shows, circuses, professional wrestling and other forms of sports and entertainment. Opening on February 11, 1968, it is the oldest and most active major sporting facility in the New York metropolitan area.

Some 4,000 mobile food vendors licensed by the city, many immigrant-owned, have made Middle Eastern foods such as falafel and kebabs popular examples of modern New York street food. The city is also home to nearly one thousand of the finest and most diverse haute cuisine restaurants in the world.
