PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
IMPORTANT PEOPLE
Guillaume Amontons: first to establish relationship
Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac: made the actual law
2.
When temperature increases, so does pressure, and vice versa. This is called a directly proportional relationship.
3.
When the temperature of a gas inside of a container is increased, the gas molecules increase the speed at which they travel, hitting the side of their container more, increasing the pressure.
4.
VOLUME
For this law to work, the volume must be constant.
A change in volume would disrupt Gay-Lussac's Law.
5.
REAL LIFE EXAMPLES
Tire Pressure: the tires of your car deflate in the cold
Ping Pong Balls: dip them in cold water to get rid of dents
Footballs: having one outside on a cold day deflated them
