I chose this quote because it was describing how the man acted toward people, how he always made them smile no matter what mood he was in.

"Physically he was as akward as a clown.."

Chap. 1 Quote 2 Page 7

"I'm too old to start from scratch again in a country so far away.."
i chose this quote because it is hard to start over from scratch especially when you don't have very much to start out with.

Chap. 1 quote 3 page 9

"The yellow star?"
This quote is very sad due to the fact that, that was reality to them. They were unsure if they would live or die. They did not know when they would get to eat their next meal or if they were going to have to fight for their survival. They would never know.

Chap. 2 quote 1 page 21

"Jews, look! Look through the window! Flames! Look!"
I chose this quote because its very scaring if you think about the tragic events that actually happened during the holocaust were thousands of people died

Chap. 3 quote 1 page 22

"Men to the left! Women to the right!"
I chose this quote because during that time, it seemed as they split up families due to the fact that they split the males from the females. Which means if there was a mother and a son they would not see each other again unless they survived whatever they are going through.

chap. 3 quote 3 page 31

"I became A-7713. After that I had no other name."
It has got to be hard knowing that your life as you know it has ended. That you are issued a new number and that you have to start your life over. Anyone who survived the emotional and physical abuse of the holocaust, will have nothing happen to them that is anywhere close to that devastation.

chap. 4 quote 1 page

"You're lucky, son." smiled Hans. "you've landed in a good unit."
Those words probably gave A-7713 comfort. That there was somebody in that unit looking out for him.

chap. 4 quote 2 page 40

"You lazy old devil!"
I think it was wrong for the man to hit his father because he was trying his best. Even though it wasn't what as fast as the man wanted it, he still made the best effort that he could. Yet his father shouldn't have been hit with a tire iron.

chap. 4 quote 3 page 48

"Where is god now?"
People started to question if there was a god because in their situation none of them were being saved from the slaughterhouses or the death factories.

chap. 5 quote 1 page 53

"We can begin!" As if this were a game!
I chose this quote because its breath taking due to the fact that to the SS life was a game. Games are supposed to be fun not life endangering, to where it puts the person and other people in danger. There is no strategy there is only surviving. It's hard to survive when there is always the thought in your head that it could be your last, you never get to see your

Chap. 5 quote 2 page 55

"They told me to stay behind in the camp."
When someone is told to stay behind in the camp most times out of 10 they will not survive. It was sad that he tried to give Elie something to remember him by which was sterling silver knife and a spoon. Elie didn't want to take them because to him that was like his father giving up on him and most importantly himself. Which any father wouldn't want to leave their children in a situation like that

Chap. 6 quote 1 page 68

"You're crushing me. . . mercy! mercy!
It was hard to breath in that situation, and he couldn't tell if the bodies on top of him were alive or if they were dead. He did find his friend but that was the last time he ever heard his friend play the violin one last time through the night because when he woke up the next morning his friend was dead and the violin was smashed, It makes you wonder what happened to him and why was the instrument of music destroyed but he did play a beautiful symphony of Beethoven before he died.

chap. 7 quote 1 page 73

"Please," I begged,"don't throw any more money in!"
To me i think you should save and hide your money away. I would never throw it away or in or give it away or anything. It reminds me of the great depression how people would throw their money away and sometimes even burn it for warmth.

Chap. 8 quote 1 page 77

"Don't let me find him!" If only i could get rid of his dead weight."
The part that i didn't really understand about this chapter of the book was because he was thinking to himself when the were marching that the boy who had left his father behind to survive was selfish and only wanted what was best for himself when now in the story Elie is doing the same thing with his father and he realizes it and knows he cannot to do that because they started the camp together and now they are going to finish the camp together.
