The Sons Of Liberty

  • The Sons of Liberty were a group formed by artisans and shopkeepers in 1765 that was originally called "The Loyal Nine." As the group grew, they changed their name to The Sons of Liberty. It is believed that the leader of the organization was Samuel Adams. Samuel Adams organized the Boston Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty opposed the Acts openly and mainly harassed officials until they quit their job.

The Daughters of Liberty were established in 1776 and their leader was Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams. The Daughters of Liberty boycotted British goods and made their own clothes so they would be less dependent on British textiles. Another woman important in the American Revolution is Mercy Otis Warren. She was a
political writer and propagandist who wrote plays and poems that attacked the British.
